In this song I have tried to interpret Psalm 23 in a contemporary way. It must be one of the most famous and best-loved in the Bible and offers supreme comfort in terms of its expression of God’s unfailing love and guardianship over our lives, instilling confidence in us to put our trust in Him through every circumstance.
The Lord is the guardian of my life
Psalm 23;
The Lord is the guardian of my life,
he counsels and protects me,
my every need supplies.
In God I have found a place to rest,
where righteousness restores me
to walk in better ways.
When the shadows fall around me,
then I will not be afraid
for your comfort still surrounds me
and your presence lights my way.
God of faithfulness and mercy,
strong and steadfast is your endless love.
You won't leave me, won't desert me,
I will trust in you my God.
The Lord is the guardian of my soul,
I'm honoured at his table and rescued from my foes.
His goodness and mercy follow me
and safe within his presence I'll spend eternity.
Though I walk the darkest valley,
I won't journey there alone,
for my God is close beside me,
his assurance brings me home.
You pursue me with your kindness,
you uphold me with your hand of grace.
And I will sing of all your goodness,
I will live for your praise
I will put my trust in you,
for your mercy never fails,
I will put my trust in you.
